Missing check-ups when wearing braces for kids can elongate treatment time and raise the chance of issues. Also remember that if a bracket pops off or a wire starts poking, acting promptly (rather than waiting) can save discomfort and keep everything on track.

Discomfort is common shortly after the braces are placed or adjusted — sensitivity, mild soreness, or minor irritation inside the cheeks and lips. That does not mean something is wrong. But if it persists or a part is broken, make sure the orthodontist checks it. In the meantime, soft foods, cold drinks, and orthodontic wax can ease the transition.
